We have been looking after guests since 2006 and are a must-stay on the South Island travel circuit. Imagine sleeping in a historic Jail cell, although rest assured it has been tastefully renovated and is much warmer and friendlier than it’s years as the Addington Prison from 1876 to 1999. You can have your mugshot taken and explore the historic solitary confinement cell. Now the Jailhouse building has a new use and the local Addington area is a hive of activity and boasts cool bars, theatre, sports and entertainment venues. You will still be close to the CBD to explore the Gardens, Museums, Quake City, Art Centre and other Christchurch Attractions. It is also walkable along Hagley Park to Christchurch Hospital. We have a room for everyone as our cells include dorms, singles, twin bunks, doubles and a family room with shared bathrooms, kitchen, laundry facilities, free WiFi, free parking, TV areas and more.   • Was Jailhouse Accommodation really a prison?
    Yes it was the main Christchurch City Jail from 1876 until it’s closure in 1999. It initially housed all types of criminals but in the 2nd World War years it was used as a military base, it had some years as solely a women's prison and towards the end was just for remand prisoners.
  • Do you have free parking?
    Yes there is free off-street parking just on front of the Jailhouse building on Lincoln Rd.
  • Do you have Free and Fast internet?
    Yes of course we do! Unlimited GB on fibre wifi for free
  • Do you do have a Travel Desk?
    Yes we can help you with all onward travel including buses, trains, adventure, activities, car hire, etc.
  • Do you have kitchen and laundry facilities?
    Yes we have shared facilities open for your use. The washing machines and dryers require coins but we have kept the laundry costs low for you. The kitchen is commercial-style and fully equipped.
  • Are you on City Bus lines?
    Yes It is easy to catch the Orange Line bus on Lincoln Rd for a direct link to the City Bus Exchange. The Orbiter bus stop is also a short walk away (to the University and other places).
