Skotel Alpine Resort is located in Whakapapa Village at the foot of Mount Ruapehu. Conveniently located near Whakapapa skifield during the ski season (June to October), within 1km of Tongariro National Park Whakapapa Visitor Centre and at the entrance to the Taranaki Falls Trail walk. The Mount Ruapehu ski area is a 6km drive up the mountain from the Village.

Skotel Alpine Resort is a 3 hour drive from Hamilton Airport, 4.5 hours from the Auckland and Wellington Airports.

The hotel is the ideal base for exploring the UNESCO world heritage park – and the many hiking and biking trails in the area.  From the hotel you can walk to Taranaki Falls, Tawhai Falls, Tama Lakes and for those up for a day trail walk, the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. 

After an exciting day hiking, biking, skiing (Jun-Oct) or sight-seeing guests can enjoy a refreshing sauna, a relaxing spa, or unwind over a drink or a meal at the Skotel Restaurant and Bar.

Skotel Alpine Resort is located in the Ruapehu Region on the Thermal Explorer & Volcanic Loop Touring Routes which traverse dramatic landscapes in the heart of the North Island of New Zealand, approximately half way between Auckland and Wellington. Tongariro National Park is about 4.5 hours drive from either city.

Local attractions and things to see and do include Mt Tongariro, Hiking, Skiing, Snowboarding, Sightseeing, Indoor rock climbing, Tongariro Alpine Crossing, Mountain biking, Fishing, Ruapehu Visitor Centre, Scenic Flights

The Skotel ski-hire department is justly famous for the quality of its gear.  A complete range of skis and boards for all ages and skills is stocked together with hiking gear for summer and clothing for both seasons.

A small range of snacks and toiletries are available for purchase at Reception and larger grocery items can be purchased from the local store 15 minutes drive from Skotel Alpine Resort.
